Very sad to hear that theatre director Michael Bogdanov has died.
Michael had enormous zest for life, intellectual warmth and humour. And latitude; one of those rare people who could make the extraordinary possible, through sheer tenacity, wit and imagination. Michael’s multi-dimensional staging of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner at the Young Vic and Hiawatha at the National Theatre made a lasting impression in their use of space, voices and light; so too his hilarious Canterbury Tales touring show and ESC Wars of the Roses cycle filmed in Swansea. In 2006 I had the delight of drawing his rehearsals for A Christmas Carol and A Child’s Christmas in Wales in Cardiff and he kindly opened a solo show of mine. Michael’s generous hosting, and galvanising of Welsh/English cultural life will be much missed. My thoughts go to his immediate family and everyone in his orbit.
