Just been on ‘Good Morning Wales’ (BBC Radio Wales) talking book covers and telepathy with Louise Elliott and Oliver Hides. This was prompted by an article in yesterday’s Daily T***graph about Agatha Christie demanding a redesign of the cover of one of her potboilers, and the sometimes tricky relationship between author, illustrator, editor and sales department. The presenters set me the challenge of drawing them beforehand as imagined from their voices. I drafted a bespoke cover design for their imagined bestseller ‘HOW DO I LOOK: Radio in the Age of the Selfie.’ (£8.99 Beach Radio Press) Who’s to know what presenters wear in the studio or what animals they ride around on? The illustrator can help, but best imagined. Most importantly, if you don’t like the book covers you’re stuck with, make your own.
