What really matters? Is the universe pregnant (in each individual)? Does God need to participate in human creativity? These and other baffling questions were probed at a ‘Paul Tillich – Theology and Legacy’ conference at the Ertegun House, Oxford. Keynotes from Marc Boss and Douglas Hedley set out the terrain with great erudition. Interesting to hear overlooked ideas from the 17thC Cambridge Platonists, tensions between historicism/anti-historicism; the idea of supra-history; methexis; the metaphysical imagination, and the I (eye?) that asserts itself with courage, grace and unquiet thought.
