Chris Glynn; how the devil are you? I like the look of your blog, there’s some nice stuff there. I see you’re teaching these days (I probably should have known that; maybe I did). So am I, three days a week at University College Falmouth for the last two years, and it is a lot of fun. I really enjoy helping the students get to what they are striving for.
I’m devillishly well, thanks Derek, great to hear from you. Was thinking about my mentors (and tormentors) the other day and how much you taught me about drawing at Cartwn Cymru, and recommending to my students to check out RB Kitaj…
Hope you’re still wielding a mean pencil/brush//camera…. Falmouth! I was there for the Falmouth Forum in the Spring, wonderful Illustration MA event organised by Steve Braund. Met John Vernon Lord, George Hardie, Lorenzo Mattotti… bliss. It would be great to catch up some time, much development here at CSAD and Illustration Research… Do you live in Falmouth or commute?

I still live in Bristol but I get up at 5.00 on a Wednesday morning to drive down to Falmouth and stay until Friday.
I wish I’d heard about the Illustration event; Mattotti, in particular, is a favourite of mine and I’d have loved to hear him talk.
I’m still working on other stuff, like storyboards and character design, for money, but I’m also trying to do my own work. Naomi and I have this feature project that is at third draft script stage and I have a live-action and an animation short that I want to do – I just need some collaborators, especially a producer. ( Naomi is too busy and doesn’t think it worth doing shorts). I am co-writing a book on Acting and Performance for Animation and there is a whole slew of artistic projects I’m trying to find time for…. groan. I’m hoping that the research community in Falmouth is going to come in useful and help with some of these; I already have sneaky plans to get the students involved with some of them as part of the course. And at least I get to join in with the life-drawing that we have them do so I can keep up with the old charcoal. Happy days; it’s too late to stop now!
